One year update...

Tableware for our Trillium
We're back! It's been one whole year since we introduced you to our Trillium trailer and we've just now begun work on the interior updates. It's so exciting!  Despite the 32 degree temperature today, we had fun finally digging into things. Thankfully, mom and my brother Scott were around to watch the kiddos (oh that's right, we now have both a 3 year old and a 1 month old! Stay tuned for an update post in our 'Family' section). (I put an exclamation mark at the end of the previous sentence and we're now having a disagreement about whether or not it is necessary. Elaine: "it's not 'top of the muffin TO YOU!" Mr. Lippman "Yes. It is." Anyway...)

Last year we'd chosen some fabrics that we thought would be nice against the avocado gelcoat inside the trailer, but upon reviewing this year, we decided to go a different route. We figured it would make more sense to have a more neutral backdrop so that in years to come we could just change out things like pillows should we want an update. That decision made, we found some great grey and white striped outdoor fabric for all of the cushions. For the curtains, we chose an abstract grey and white fabric. Grandma Baggesen and my mom have offered to sew the cushion covers and curtains for us which will be a huge help!

For the pillows we lucked out at JYSK with an outdoor dandelion fabric that ties in both the grey as well as the avocado colour - we couldn't be happier with them.  Not to mention they were $7 each! Not to mention they had melamine plates with the same pattern!! Not to get too matchy matchy, we went with a geometric print glass from PC brand and simple white bowls from Dollarama.  Cutlery is yet to be discovered...

Covering the Trillium trailer table with marine vinyl
So, anyway, today's work entailed covering the kitchen table in a dark grey marine vinyl, pulling up the carpet, and installing a genius (yes, I do say so myself!) Ikea storage solution in the closet.

Covering the table was not as easy as we thought it would be, but about an hour of work and a LOT of stretching and swearing (stretching the fabric, swearing at each other) it's done and looking pretty great.

Pulling up the carpet was literally just a two second task that required no real effort whatsoever. We're stoked because we found the exact vinyl flooring that we'd envisioned for the space and are just waiting on edging so we can install it.  Rick called a few flooring places about scraps and Alexanian had the exact look we wanted in the exact size we needed for $60 - perfect.
Now, the closet storage solution.  I should note that our goal is to create a wave of excitement within the small trailer community with our genius storage solutions and I really think we've done it with this one! ;) They are called LENNART and are from Ikea for $14.99 a piece. A feature we especially liked was the fact that the drawers pull all the way out, but have a built in stop so they won't fall out when fully extended. They are dark grey metal and two fit perfectly in the space stacked one on top of the other. They come with rear castors which makes stacking difficult, so Rick's solution was to sand down the castors of the top unit so that they would sit flat.  After that, he used mending brackets to join the rear and a couple of nuts and bolts to join the front.  Solid as a rock!
Another great find at Ikea were some really sturdy suction cup pieces meant for use in the shower. We attached a basket and water bottle holder beside our toddler's bed as well as a small mirror and hook in between the upper cabinets. We have other pieces that will be hung as the project progresses.

A simple thing that I'm so excited about is a storage solution that we installed in one of the upper cabinets.  It's just 5 cardboard magazine holders that we cut down to size and wedged in place.  I envision it as great storage for any canned items as well as apples and oranges - that kind of thing.

Next, we'll install the backsplash and flooring as well as painting the closet door with chalkboard paint (great inside activity for the kiddos on a rainy camping day!) and putting in all of the other final touches.  Stay tuned!

What better 6th wedding anniversary gift than a long sought-after Canadian made Trillium trailer?  We first learned of the Boler/Trillium trailers when we stumbled upon one not far from home.  It was in very rough shape, and we very much low-balled the owner, subsequently walking away empty handed.  A couple other failed attempts and 2 years later and we finally found the perfect one for us.  We wanted one that was complete, but as original as possible.  Over the years these seem to receive many "updates" of varying levels of success and desirability, but ultimately even a well done revamp wouldn't be to our taste, and as hard as it is to find the trailers themselves, finding replacement parts are that much harder, so returning one to its former glory is easier said than done.

Anyway, here it is- essentially perfect on the inside, and desperately needing a paint job (or more accurately an un-paint job) on the outside, and most importantly parked in our driveway.  We're excited to decorate and refresh it over the next year in preparation for many a road trip to come.  Stay tuned!
